Mt. Etna in Sicily has Largest Eruption in Years

Sicily (HDW) October 29, 2002 - The 2002 Mt. Etna flank eruption that began on October 27th continues, after almost a full month of activity. During this time, several distinct phases of eruptive style have been observed. The first phase of the eruption ended on 5th November, when lava flows from the northern fissure stopped. Mt. Etna in Sicily has Largest Eruption in Years

Sicily (HDW) October 29, 2002 - A relatively large eruption began at Mt. Etna on October 27th, following a series of approximately 200 small earthquakes the previous evening. The eruption began with fissures opening on the volcano's S and NE slopes around 2,700 m elevation, between Southeast Crater and Montagnola cone. (full article...)
