Ivan is Back! Hurricane’s Reign of Terror Revisits the Southern U.S.

Miami, FL (HDW) September 24, 2004 – Ivan, the hurricane that ravaged the Gulf States and the eastern United States just last week, regained strength in the Gulf of Mexico and hit Texas as a tropical depression yesterday and today. The storm is moving northwest, and is expected to turn to the west over the next day or so. The maximum sustained winds are 35 miles per hour (55 km/hr) with higher gusts. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expects the storm to weaken as it moves further inland.

Tropical Depression Ivan may cause tornados in southern Louisiana. Rain of 5 to 10 inches and higher are possible in the path of Ivan. Much of Louisiana was able to escape the wrath that the original Hurricane Ivan wrought on areas of the south like Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida. The picture from NOAA displayed above displays some of the devastation left by Ivan the first time it came through the southern U.S.
