Tropical Storm Muifa Approaches Manila with Fury Manilla, Phillipines (HDW) November 17, 2004 – Tropical Storm Muifa approached Manila, the largest city in the Phillipines, on Tuesday and was about 175 nautical miles from hitting land. The storm was moving westward at around 10 miles per hour, and was on pace to make land fall on Wednesday. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has been issuing alerts to track this very dangerous storm. The picture displayed above, taken by a NASA satellite, demonstrates the size and fury of this storm as it approaches the Phillipines.
Tropical Storm Muifa is forecast to continue to track westward and to lose energy and speed. When the storm hits land, it should lose much of its strength and may be degraded as a major storm. This tropical storm is not nearly as strong as the typhoons that ravaged Asia and the hurricanes that rocked the United States over the preceding 6 months.
